Student Testimonials

Andrei, London (Term 1, 2011)

Being a new music manager with no previous experience in the industry, I joined the MBS course because I wanted to understand how the music industry operates. From the first day, I quickly realised that the course was going to provide me with an invaluable in-depth knowledge of the music industry’s interconnecting network of labels, publishers, managers, promoters etc. Learning how each branch operates is one thing but understanding how they interact is another. I feel that a great deal of emphasis was placed on ensuring that each session was inter-related. The sessions were engaging and always in tune with current industry developments. I was also given the opportunity to meet and network with leading industry professionals from radio producers to tour managers and music media developers. I have personally gained in knowledge, understanding and personal contacts from the course and I would highly recommend it to all new music industry professionals.

Justin, Oxfordshire (Term 1, 2011)

Four months ago, I wanted to start a record label but didn’t really know where to begin. Twelve weeks later having completed the Music Business School course, I knew exactly what to do, which trade organisations to join, which collections societies to register with, how copyright works and most importantly, how to operate a profitable business within the music industry. The course provided a great balance between the need-to-know mechanics of the industry, discussion of current topics affecting music today, case studies and new models for marketing, insights and anecdotes from the many leading industry guest speakers and a weekly opportunity to discuss and share ideas with other students. If you are looking to gain fast-track knowledge of the music industry, be personally introduced to some of it’s leading figures and be part of an instant network of the next generation of music managers, label owners, promoters and producers, then this is the course for you.

Roger, London (Term 1, 2011)

Music Business School provides a  fantastic opportunity to hear first-hand from established luminaries in the music industry as well as entrepreneurs at the cutting edge of the latest developments. I learned a great deal about the most up-to-date advances in social media, the historical importance of copyrights and how they are crucial to everything we do today in terms of connecting with fans and monetising those relationships. I would highly recommend this course to any artist, manager or record company exec who needs to know about the latest opportunities for generating income from music as well as anyone getting involved in the business for the first time.

Tom, London (Term 3, 2010)

The Music Business School was a fantastic experience that I would highly recommend to anyone thinking about a career within the music industry. The course highlights a lot of the problems and opportunities that people starting out in the business need to address. It has helped to give me a diverse understanding of the industry as a whole that will enable me to offer a better service to my clients.  Steve’s enthusiasm for the subject shines through at every stage and the guest speakers were a real inspiration. I cannot recommend this course highly enough!

Rich, Sheffield (Term 3, 2010)

The course I did at MBS is BY FAR the best thing I have done to further my career within the music industry. I commuted from Sheffield on a weekly basis and it was worth every penny I spent. Excellent value for money, excellent tutor and excellent guest lecturers from top industry rep.
Now I have finished the course I feel that I am prepared to challenge the industry head-on and apply for internships or possible employment. To top it off the people in the class were great and we all got on really well, mainly due to sharing the same goal in life. Brilliant course loved every bit of it – the only downer is that it’s finished!

Claire, Buckinghamshire (Term 3, 2010)

After graduating I began to consider the possibility of taking a Masters course in Music Industry Management. However the cost of such a course made it impossible for me. Then, I discovered the Music Business School course, which covered everything I wanted to know over a short amount of time and allowed me to work full-time hours whilst taking part. The knowledge I have gained comes direct from music industry insiders who have been there and know what they are talking about, and are continuing to do fascinating things in their roles. Best of all, everything is taught in an informal and relevant way – guest speakers have made themselves absolutely available to students for questions/queries and general help in their field of work – the contacts made here are invaluable. I feel confident that the course has given me a fantastic level of vital industry information and awareness of the current developments that will give me an edge as I start to progress in the music business.

Elliott, London (Term 3, 2010)

I really enjoyed the course and it has really helped in my line of work (music law) and as a musician.  I thought the course speakers were excellent, very interesting and very helpful. Steve is a great teacher  – always kept things upbeat and interesting and taught me a whole lot about the business. Definitely recommend this course to anyone who wants to learn about the music biz!

Ash, London (Term 3, 2010)

The best going for ‘real’ industry exposure. I spent a lot of time looking for a course that I felt was going to get me great contacts as well as provide me with the knowledge I needed. In terms of the core information you would expect to get on a music business course, this course delivers it well. Where this course exceeds is in the area of giving you direct access and contact with people and companies that are working in the industry right now. We had talks from everyone including people from AIM, Music Ally, MMF, Mobile Roadie and a 3 hour long talk from Keith Harris (Stevie Wonder’s manager). I even managed to get an internship through one of the contact I made from this course. I could not recommend this course enough!

Angela, London (Term 3, 2010)

As a mature student having left a 20 year media career and now an aspiring artist and small-scale manager, I felt I needed to learn about the industry FAST! This course is invaluable. It provides a comprehensive overview of every aspect of the business in the context of the digital age. Apart from being hugely informative, it’s fascinating stuff. The course tutor has had a long and successful career in the business and access to highly influential music professionals, many of whom appear as guest speakers. Whether you already know where you’re heading in the music business OR not sure what area would best suit your interests, this course will prepare and benefit you either way. If you’re an aspiring or emerging artist, this course is simply, ESSENTIAL. Can’t recommend highly enough.
